5 tricks to transform your home for Valentine’s Day

Posted on 10th February 2017

Love is in the air as the world (and the Venture team) gears up towards the most romantic of holidays.

We’ve got together to come up with some tips to help warm your heart against the February chill, stimulate your senses and turn your home from ‘blah blah blah’ into ‘ooh la la’.

Heaven Scent

Nothing kills romance stone dead faster than a stinky rugby kit or last night’s fish supper. Give your home a real loved up atmosphere by introducing some warming scents that lift your spirits. This is easy to achieve with scented candles – although always be aware of fire safety when using these. Flames of passion = good, flames of unattended candles = bad! You could also use a room spray or reed diffusers, depending on your preference.

The scent you go for depends on personal preference of course, but top picks to get you in the mood for love include: vanilla, rose, anything spicy (ginger, cinnamon), chocolate, or musk. Use one or two complimentary scents throughout the house to ensure each room feels the love.

Be Delicious

Avoid the crowds and public proposals by cooking up some romantic feasts in the comfort of your own home. Whether you’re feeding each other chocolate covered strawberries, braving oysters or sharing a bowl of spaghetti like ‘Lady and the Tramp’, it’s easy to add a shimmer of romance.

You could dress up the dinner table with heart-shaped plates, red or pink tablecloths and napkins and champagne flutes. Adventurous bakers can serve up some cute heart shaped cakes to send a sweet message to loved ones. You know what they say: the fastest way to the heart is through the stomach, so get cooking!

Feel Good

Introduce some soft fabrics that feel great to keep the romance alive. Velvet and satin are two obvious choices, but a soft cashmere is also delicious. You can introduce touchy feely fabrics into any rooms with throws, pillows, cushions and wraps. Turn the heating down and grab a snuggly blanket with the one you love. Mix and match your favourite fabrics to make your home a multi-sensory experience.

Love at First Sight

Flirt with some pretty accessories to give your home a festive flurry. Freshly cut flowers in simple vases are a classic – bonus points if someone bought them for you. Floral prints, pastel colours and hearts are all great additions to the Valentine’s home, all readily available in the shops now in the run up to the big day. Treat yourself to a couple of cute accessories to add a hint of romance – less is definitely more!

Love Songs

Fill your house with romantic music to lift your mood and transport your home away from the sounds of the outside world. Use a music streaming service or (gasp!) a good old fashioned CD to play your favourite romantic tunes as you arrange your flowers, set your table, or cuddle up on the couch. Have the music loud enough to drown out the traffic, but low enough that the neighbours don’t bang on the door and interrupt your dessert.

We hope you’ve enjoyed reading these tips and they will get you in the mood for love this Valentine’s Day. If you have any other tips to turn your home into a romantic retreat, be sure to get in touch by tweeting us @ventureprop or posting to our Facebook page - Venture Properties.
