Family fun in County Durham this Autumn!

The season of autumnal leaves, pumpkins and an unavoidable cosy feeling is upon us and we couldn’t be more excited. There’s so much going on in County Durham this Autumn to keep the family entertained, so here are some of our favourite events that we can’t wait to get involved in!

 

Durham Book Festival (7th – 15th October)

This festival is a yearly event, jam-packed with family activities, shows and talks from well-known authors and professionals in the field. This year will see talks from David Almond, author of Skellig, Children’s author, Tim Hopgood and Peep Show actor, Robert Webb.If that wasn’t enough, this year the festival will celebrate Harry Potter’s 20th anniversary with a magical cinematic experience at Durham Cathedral!

Hamsterley Forest Halloween Happening (28th October)

Looking for an event to give you the spooks this Halloween? Hamsterley forest is holding a scary forest walk, hosted by Jack Drum Arts, including scenes, stories and songs to thrill and chill! Fun for the whole family, bookings are available from 5pm-9pm and set off every 20 minutes!

The Bowes Museum Clockwork Garden (until the 5th November)

The Clockwork Garden is an exhibition at The Bowes Museum which is perfect to keep the little ones entertained this Autumn. The Museum has created an array of bright, interactive displays, with animations and sounds, engaging activities and an outdoor adventure trail!

Durham Lumiere (16th – 19th November)

Back in Durham for the 5th time, Lumiere is set to light up the city with a stunning array of light installations, including the popular projection display on Durham Cathedral. Produced by leading arts charity Artichoke, and commission by Durham County Council, Lumiere always brings in crowds from all over the North East, and rightly so! We can’t wait to grab our glow sticks and follow the trail!
