Festive fancies to brighten your home

Posted on 14th December 2020

We’ve all spent an awful lot of time in our homes this year, so we think they deserve a treat – and what better way than giving them a festive makeover?

More is definitely more this Christmas, so we’ve rounded up our favourite three decorating trends for you to make the most of those four walls you’ve been staring at all year.

Eternal opulence

Reflect this year’s trend for jewel colours, warm metals and velvety soft textures with a real tree and carefully co-ordinated baubles. This luxurious theme will put you in the mood for entertaining – even if it’s just with your closest family.

Check out Next’s range of plum-coloured baubles to give your tree a real touch of sophistication.

Such rich, deep colours provide the ideal backdrop for a smattering of twinkling lights too – creating the illusion of a warm, candlelit glow – how very festive!

All the colours of the rainbow

The rainbow has been one of the defining images of the year, so what better way to pay tribute to the heroes of the NHS than with a super-bright tree.

You have two choices here; you can either go for a variety of rainbow-hued decorations, like these from John Lewis (and make sure you put them in the right order – all together now, ‘Richard Of York…’.

Or, you might want to go the whole hog with a fully rainbow Christmas tree, like this one from Argos – it’s so festive, you don’t even need to bother with baubles.

Scandi style

Nobody does Christmas like the Scandinavians, but if a trip to Lapland is out of the question, you can bring this cosy aesthetic to your own home.

Think cool tones, minimalist decorations and natural fibres – a faux fur throw and some tealights are a must to recreate this look. Check out Nordic Nest for everything you need to create the perfect Scandi scene to your home this festive season.

Of course, Christmas is as personal as you are, and you don’t need to follow any rules; bright lights, mismatched tinsel and homemade baubles all have a charm that can’t be replicated in any interiors magazine.

And this year, most of all, it’s about what makes you happy – so go for it!

All that’s left is for the Venture team to wish you a very merry Christmas, and a happy, healthy 2021!
