‘Tyre’ yourself out for charity – The Tour de Branch is back
After the success of our Tour de Branch 2017 where we raised over £1,300 for the Great North Air Ambulance, the fundraiser is back for round two! This year, the 41 mile bike ride will be held on Sunday 5th August, starting at Chester-le-Street and ending at our Darlington branch (with pit stops at our four other branches along the way).
This year, our chosen charity is the Alzheimer’s Society. Not only does it conduct life-saving research, it also offers support and advice to those living with Alzheimer and their families. With nearly 15 per cent of people over the age of 71 living with the disease, the charity’s research is becoming more and more important.
Want to help us make a difference?
You can join us on the Tour de Branch for a £10 entry fee, which will include a t-shirt as well as refreshments and food after the ride. Contact firstname.lastname@example.org for more information and to secure your place!
If that isn’t enough to persuade you, here are five of our favourite benefits of cycling
Cycling builds muscle
Not only will you build your aerobic fitness with cycling, the resistance element of riding a bike means you’ll also build muscle- particularly around the legs and glutes. Who wouldn’t like to be a bit more toned?
Cuts the risk of cancer and heart disease
Cycling is one of the forms of exercise recommended by the NHS to reduce the risks of getting major illnesses. There’s even evidence from a study by the University of Glasgow that shows cycling to work can cut a rider’s risk of developing heart disease and cancer by almost half
Get a better night’s sleep
What can be better for ensuring a good night’s sleep than tiring yourself out with exercise in the great outdoors?
Improves mental well-being
Exercise is a proven way to boost your mood. The release of adrenaline and endorphins will set you up for a great day and it’s a brilliant way to build your confidence.
It also gives you an excuse for some well-needed alone time if you run a busy life, or can give you the opportunity to be sociable if you cycle with friends (or the Venture team!)
Pop all these benefits together and they’re proven to promote a long, healthy life!
If we’ve encouraged you to get on your bike for charity, please don’t hesitate to get in touch! Do you know any benefits of cycling that we haven’t mentioned? Let us know over on Twitter @ventureprop!
